Historical Association of Lewiston Presents: “The Manifest Destiny of Dickersonville”.

Thursday, April 25, 2024 (7:00 PM - 8:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

“The Manifest Destiny of Dickersonville” comes from a quote by Author William Pool and aptly describes the topic of this program.

Ann Marie Linnabery will present the history of the area now known as Dickersonville in the town of Lewiston. She will go back to its geologic formation and move forward through time as part of an Indian trail, a military encampment, an early pioneer settlement, an agricultural district, and a bustling neighborhood of inter-related families, to its present situation as a busy crossroads sustained by farming and recreational activities. You will learn how this settlement with the long name and big aspirations, went from an active social and religious community to an almost forgotten hamlet.

Ann Marie Linnabery is the Assistant Director/Education Coordinator at the Niagara History Center in Lockport. She has an M.A. in American History from SUNY/Buffalo (1992), with an emphasis on the social, religious and political history of Western New York between 1815 and 1860. In addition to the Niagara History Center, Ms. Linnabery has held positions with the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site, the Castellani Art Museum and the Western New York Association of Historical Agencies as well as volunteering at several museums in Erie and Niagara Counties over the past 40+ years. Ann Marie researches, develops and implements historically-based educational programs for both children and adults and writes a weekly local history column for the Lockport Union-Sun & Journal and the Niagara Gazette.
